Italian Estates: Fiamma di Re Smooth Tomato with Silver (Nove Corone) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-006-39740

Translating as "Flame of the King" or "King's Flame" from Italian, Fiamma di Re is a Pesaro workshop founded by Giannino Spadoni who also helped found Mastro de Paja. Similar to Mastro de Paja, Fiamma di Re fashions pipes often in line with the stylistic cues of Pesaro pipe making — artful, flowing line work, gestural shaping, and dramatic takes on classic shapes. This Tomato is a thick and hearty iteration of the shape, with a broad, plump bowl that fills the contours of the hand quite well. A mid-set waistline here marks the start of a gentle taper toward the rim, its walls standing atop a rounded heel, all capped by a flat rim. A wide transition gives way to a gently lifting shank which meets a demurely curved stem of jet-black acrylic at a junction marked by a band of silver. Dressed in a warm mahogany stain, the bowl and shank are wrapped with flame grain, while the top and underside are peppered with birdseye.
