Italian Estates: Ser Jacopo Picta Magritte Rusticated Barrel with Silver (R1) (C) (17) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-006-41056
Known for pioneering the Pesaro style of pipe making, Giancarlo Guidi founded Ser Jacopo in 1982. Since then, the Italian marque has made a name for itself with its affinity for fantastical, imaginative interpretations of classic pipe conventions. Among these interpretations is the marque's Picta series, a line created by Guidi that was inspired by his affinity for the arts. The shape of this bent Dublin draws inspiration from a 1948 painting by surrealist René Magritte titled Itchings.
This pipe from Ser Jacopo combines a hearty, Barrel bowl with an aquiline posture for an overall robust composition. The bowl's rotund figure fills the hand easily, formed by thick walls curving from the flat heel as they reach toward the rim. Out back is a compact, strongly arched shank-and-stem arrangement, the junction adorned with a silver accent band that's engraved with a pattern of flying birds, a common motif in Magritte's work. The stummel wears a rugged rustication for a intriguing textural experience in the hand.
