Italian Estates: Castello Old Antiquari Paneled Canadian (G) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-006-41109

Italian workshop Castello has a rich history that stretches back to 1947 with its founding by Carlo Scotti, being established as one of the first Italian brands to offer high-quality handmade pipes to the general public. In the 1960s, following the addition of Luigi Radice and Peppino Ascorti to their team of carvers, Castello's pipes began to take on a form that was quite different from the Anglo-French classics that they and others had been producing. The Italian neoclassical style which they had begun to develop led not only to a shaping renaissance within Italy but the production of a number of now-iconic profiles. Castello crafts a variety of Canadian renditions across their portfolio, with this particular example being one of the few paneled takes on the profile we've received from them. A wide transition gives way to a compressed, ovoid shank that extends out and tapers to meet an extremely short stem of more swiftly tapering black acrylic. Up front, the bowl stands atop a firm heel, its low-set waist marked by the crisp lower ridges that frame the bottom of the eight ridges surrounding the bowl's walls. A slightly larger pipe, as denoted by Castello's "G" stamping, this pipe showcases plenty of handsome grain thanks to the Italian workshop's Old Antiquari sandblast.
