In the late 1960s, two Castello pipe makers, Giuseppe Ascorti and Luigi Radice, left to found their own workshop, Caminetto. Their skilled craftsmanship grew Caminetto into one of the most popular marques of the 1970s and beyond. This Bulldog by Caminetto is a handsome rendition of the classic form that juxtaposes firm, structural lines against supple curves. A stocky, full-bodied bowl rises in a steady flare at the pipe's fore, its walls rising to a ridgeline-wrapped waistline before tapering inward to a taut rim. Said bowl is paired to a sturdy diamond shank whose architectural lines reflect the bowl's own. A demurely curved tapered stem tops off the composition and promotes a comfortable smoking posture, while a warm blonde stain dresses the stummel and highlights healthy grain across the briar's surface.
