Italian Estates: Castello Collection Zulu with Silver (226.235) (1998) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-006-41345

From the mind of Italian artisan Carlo Scotti, Castello was founded in 1947 with the goal of offering handmade pipes that exude quality in both form and function. Working together with Luigi Radice and Peppino Ascorti, the three would serve as key innovators in defining Italian neoclassical pipe design. This Zulu from Castello possesses a strong sense of momentum from stummel to stem. The bowl stands with a subtle forward cant at the fore of the composition, with smooth walls flaring gradually from the sweeping heel toward the subtly domed rim. Out of a sloping transition, a muscular shank tapers from the bowl and is adorned with an ornate, silver accent band at the junction, where the taper continues into a gracefully downturned stem to form a fluid silhouette. Castello's Collection finish dresses the stummel in a warm, honey-blonde stain that displays windswept vertical grain on both flanks and pepperings of birdseye across the top. Dated to 1998, this piece is serialized as number 226 out of a total of 235.
