Italian Estates: Ardor Giove Bent Bulldog (34) (Dorelio Rovera) (Old Briar) (2004) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-006-41943

The Ardor marque was established in 1974, its name being a portmanteau of its founders, Angelo Rovera and his son Dorelio Rovera. The family's tradition of pipe making extends further, to 1911, when Angelo's father Francesco founded the Sociedade Rovera pipe company alongside his brothers. Even today, Ardor is carried on by Dorelio's sons Dimitri and Damiano. This bent Bulldog from Ardor combines sleek line work and sinuous curves for a handsome rendition of the form. The is squat, its thick walls flaring from the broad heel toward a pair of beadlines set just beneath a crisp ridge, where they then taper toward the rim. A sturdy, triangular shank lifts gracefully out of the transition from the bowl and meets a smartly bent half-saddle stem of vibrant, fiery acrylic. Complementing the stem's warm tones is Ardor's Giove finish, which dresses the stummel in a smooth, auburn stain that highlights vertical grain across the bowl's base, and wisps of birdseye around the top of the bowl and the underside.
