This Cherrywood from Mastro de Paja pairs sinuous curves and crisp panels for a striking rendition of the classic shape, complete with its sure-sitting capabilities. The bowl stands upon a flattened heel with a dynamic forward cant, its thick walls framed by four crisp facets as they rise straight toward the flat rim, with the corners cut into slim panels for added definition. Emerging from the transition is a round, compact shank, which lifts to meet a gracefully bent, tapered stem of swirling, coffee-hued acrylic, the pair promoting a comfortable smoking posture. A striking dual finish dresses the stummel, with a fine rustication wrapping from the heel to the fore of the base, and the rest of the piece finished with a smooth, auburn stain that highlights lively vertical grain all throughout.
