Italian Estates: Jacono Rook Pear (2013) Tobacco Pipe

The Pear is an organic, Acorn-like shape that's here presented in a straight rendition thanks to Tonino Jacono. The Italian carver has fashioned a slightly flaring, canted bowl topped by a rounded rim. The bowl captures the attention in profile, offering a robust presence in hand, and the shank tapers diminutively toward the sleek saddle stem which lends even more visual prominence to the bowl. Lastly, it's dressed in an auburn stain, highlighting the briar's wonderful cross-cut grain orientation and earning the carver's Rook designation.
