Italian Estates: Mastro Geppetto Sabbiato Paneled Volcano Churchwarden (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-006-44391
Giancarlo Guidi founded Ser Jacopo in 1982, building a reputation on crafting high-quality briars that are renowned for their robust proportions and playful shaping cues. The Italian atelier's style has since defined the Pesaro style of pipe making, each of their pipes imbued with a sense of character and reflecting the whimsical creativity that went into crafting them. Mastro Geppetto is Ser Jacopo's sub-brand of more accessibly priced pipes that still maintain a high-quality of workmanship. Crafted in the Ser Jacopo workshop, these pieces embody the playful Pesaro style of their pricier counterparts, with this paneled Volcano Churchwarden being an excellent example. Strikingly tall and fairly reserved of length compared to other Churchwarden renditions, this piece is a robust and bowl-forward pipe sure to draw the eye. Said bowl stands atop a broad base and grows to over two and a half inches tall, taking on both a sleek taper and defined forward cant which both cement it as the center of the visual weight. The visual weight is further enhanced by the bowl's octet of wrapping panels, offering a firm feel in hand while a wide transition leads to a lifting, tapering shank-and-stem combination out back. Dressed in a crisp, darkly-stained sandblast, the stummel here showcases handsome grain throughout and offers ample texture in hand.
