About This Pipe
Giancarlo Guidi founded Mastro de Paja in 1972 and joined with Spadoni Giannino to make their company one of the most revered pipe manufacturers in Italy. The partnership between Guidi and Giannino is no more, each man having left in the early 1980s to start their own respective companies (Ser Jacopo, in Guidi's case.) Mastro de Paja's production of handmade pipes nevertheless lives on in Pesaro, where the school of pipe making is heavily influenced by Guidi's work.
This bent Apple falls under one of Mastro de Paja's sub-brands, Calibano, and features lovely flame grain across the entire stummel. The smooth finish allows this grain to shine unobstructed and gives the bowl a satisfying, light touch. Both shank and walls take on muscular proportions that give the stummel a substantial feel in the hand.
