About This Pipe
Achille Savinelli set out to break the Italian government's monopoly on tobacco when he opened his own smoke shop in Milan in 1876. Though clay and meerschaum ruled the pipe market in those days, Achille had faith that the briar pipes he designed and had manufactured in Varese would make a breakthrough, and he was right. Production of Savinelli pipes continues to this day, as does operation of the Savinelli shop in Milan.
The rustication crossing the bowl and shank gives this bent Apple from Savinelli a pleasant, subtly beehive-like silhouette. The finish is complemented well by the stain, which shines through as an attractive reddish-brown in the thin canyons of the rustication. A thick silver accent completes the stummel, which is easily gripped thanks to the horizontal orientation of the rustication. Though a bent Apple shape, the stem and shank form straight lines leading almost the entire way up to the bit.
