Japanese Estates: Tsuge Ikebana Smooth Horn (D) (2005)

Product Number: 004-007-0514

Kazuhiro Fukuda, the senior and master artisan of Tsuge's Ikebana workshop learned much of pipemaking at the hands of the Danish greats Sixten and Lars Ivarsson, yet rather than take that learning and use it to produce Ivarsson-style pipes which simply happened to be made in Japan, he and the rest of his crew used it as a foundation to develop a shaping language that is both distinctly Japanese, and within the Japanese school distinct to Ikebana. And the great, powerful, yet smoothly wrought substance and gesture of this Horn, we see a fine example of that style. And to go along with it, we find no little amount of flame grain curling up the flanks, a lovely freckling of birdseye underneath, each contrasted by smoky, smoldering 3/4 grain and rugged natural plateau, respectively.
