Japanese Estates: Ichi Kitahara Smooth Freehand (2013)
Product Number: 004-007-1125
Perfecting his skills under the supervision of Hiroyuki Tokutomi, Ichi Kitahara is adept at carving complex forms with prominent lines and unexpected elements. This particularly elaborate Freehand offers a curling shank similar to that of the Nautilus shape, but with a more sinuous character as it extends well into the bowl on the left side. The rim is chamfered around the tobacco chamber, and curves both downward and upward, its near side lifting and sharply defined. For those who enjoy the creativity possible in such a simple instrument as a pipe, this example provides ample artistry and a form highly evolved in execution and style.- Chuck Stanion
