Japanese Estates: Kenichiro Sakurai Smooth Blowfish with Ebony (105) (2013)

Product Number: 004-005-5288

Kenichiro Sakurai is a Japanese artisan who carves under the moniker "Ken Pipes," having fashioned this Blowfish in 2013. Viewed from the left, the profile assumes a simple, Egg-like shape, the bowl rounded and forward-urging, seemingly defined by plump curvature. From the other side, though, the characteristics of the Blowfish are evident, with a neat panel framing the flank with structured ridgelines. It's a more reserved rendition of the design, which can often take on quite intricate and dramatic design cues, beautifully combining traditional shaping with the Blowfish's Freehand aspects.
