Japanese Estates: Smio Satou Smooth Bent Dublin with Bamboo Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-007-1432

The son of one of Japan's first pipe makers to use briar, Smio Satou is one of the foremost artisans of his country, pioneering the uniquely organic style associated with Japan. After working for Tsuge for 25 years, Satou began making pipes under his own name, producing world-class pieces until his passing in 2023. His pipes are renowned for their superior engineering and immaculate finishing work.

This bent Dublin is a particularly excellent piece from Satou, placing a hearty, flared bowl atop a jutting, spurred heel at the fore of a wispy bamboo shank. Said bowl displays a dynamic forward momentum, accentuated by the outward flare of the walls, capped by a domed and upswept rim. The shank is seamlessly integrated into the design, giving way to a willowy saddle stem of black vulcanite. Dressed in a rich auburn finish, the stummel boasts impeccable flame grain around the bowl, while the rim displays a dense field of dazzling birdseye.
