Misc. Estates: Sergey Cherepanov Smooth Horn

Product Number: 004-008-1935

Sergey Cherepanov is a skilled artisan who displays considerable variation in the shapes he works in; I've seen pipes he's made that ranged in style from large, clean, smooth forms, somewhat reminiscent of, say, Nachwalter, to an ultra-slender Cutty bearing a close resemblance to an antique clay, to complex modern freehands. In this case, what we find is a diminutive design that packs a lot of artful, natural flow into a brief measure of briar and stem. the result is a profile that might be mistaken for the work of an accomplished pipemaker fo the Japanese school, though it is worth noting that Cherepanov took a lighter touch in terms of organic asymmetry than is typical of Japanese works - just a slight tweaking of the rim and bevel section of the bowl.
