Misc. Estates: Peter Matzhold Smooth Bent Dublin Sitter with Horn (2F)
Product Number: 004-008-3937
While overall fairly conservative for Peter, this bent Dublin from Matzhold does sport some unique shaping cues that really stand out as his own. The harder lines and more architectural style of the bowl, for example, work in beautiful juxtaposition to the softer style of rounded shank and downturned saddle bit — creating a unique and dynamic silhouette that balances a rakish look up front with more elegant gesture out back. Moreover, you'll notice some subtle cheeking to the bowl near the base, accentuated by the deep, defined nature of the transition itself. Aside from the impressive shaping, I particularly like what Matzhold's done with the finish here; the light blonde-walnut contrast stain really gives a lot of depth and definition to the acres of flame grain around the bowl, without making the overall aesthetic too heavy or dark, and the horn-embedded accent stem just adds a touch of pastoral charm. Excellent piece from Peter here.- Andrew Wike
