Misc. Estates: Alexander Sokolik Smooth Bird with Wenge (Unsmoked)
Product Number: 004-008-23871
Over the past few years we've seen a couple variations of Alexander Sokolik's signature Bird shape — both times with an underlying low-slung, stretched Volcano-esque form. Here, however, we find a Bird of a different feather, or at least a Bird with a different base shape. Where the former two featured crisp, clean lines and a lifting, sliced off heel, this one starts off with a neat little bulb of a bowl, an Apple of sorts, plump and filling in hand. Following that comes an elongated, sweeping transition and exaggerated upward flick to the shank end, which features a generous wenge accent that displays some fascinating grain patterns. It differs again in the stemwork, however; where the former two featured jet-black vulcanite stems, this one features cumberland — and finely patterned cumberland at that. And to top it all off, it's still unsmoked.- Andrew Wike
