Misc. Estates: Daniel Mustran Smooth Bent Brandy with Padauk (2015) (Unsmoked)
Product Number: 004-008-23881
Daniel Mustran, a German carver now living in Croatia, has here taken the classic Brandy shape and given it a more modern aesthetic. It's not a new formula, as the majority of Daniel's work is reinvented classic shapes, but the specific results remain as fresh as ever. Daniel's approach to shaping in this case has lent this piece a considerable degree of dynamic momentum, with a smart forward cant and rise to the bowl and a backwards slope to the rim. The heel is dramatically lifted, balancing out the angle of the rim, and the transition pinches in at the flanks, further accentuating the bowl's curves. Finished in a warm amber contrast stain, the piece is given even more contrast as a whole by the Paduak accented mount and shimmering green stem. Unsmoked.-Truett Smith
