Misc. Estates: Geiger Smooth Dublin
Product Number: 004-008-5035
It seems rather obvious that a skilled, inventive, and visionary pipemaker would be one to take noticeable risks over the course of exploring a body of work. It's obvious when looking over that of Sara and Love Geiger, at least, with such novel offerings as a mushroom-like "Reverse Calabash Asymmetric Egg Cavalier" and their famed Bodog, which pushes the limits of squatness and low-sitting form. What isn't so obvious is that a skilled, inventive, and visionary pipemaker should be able to tackle the classics, and tackle them well, imbuing upon them a unique sense of style and artistry, and speaking to both the legacy of the shape itself as well as a personal ownership over the style(s) within which that carver operates. The Geigers have no doubt accomplished this, as is evidenced by this delightfully trim, ridiculously sleek Dublin. The softened lines sported by the rim and tapering bowl meld seamlessly with the delicate shaping and arrow-straight disposition of the composition at large, while the pronounced forward cant nods to pipe designs of yesteryear. The grain orientation is nothing short of immaculate, with gorgeous licks of flame on both cheeks, and stellar birdseye at the aft and fore. A stunning piece from Sara and Love that's still in excellent condition.- Daniel Bumgardner
