Misc. Estates: Doctor's Pipes Sandblasted Bent Dublin

Product Number: 004-008-5355

This is an older piece from Roman Kovalev of Doctor's Pipes, the Russian carver having since made quite the name for himself, particularly in his incredibly innovative use of organic, alternate mediums. While Roman's current, more eccentric aesthetic isn't readily apparent in this bent Dublin, his style is more evident in its size and finish. Sinuous and forward-urging, it's a rather compact piece that still manages to pack a lot of chamber in to the thick-walled bowl. The sweeping form also thrusts much of the visual weight toward the bowl, the trim shank and stem combination being quite diminutive in comparison. It's all dressed, then, in an absolutely gorgeous sandblast, rife with straight grain and rippling ring grain alike β€” a testament to Kovalev's skill even at an earlier stage in his career as a pipemaker. Condition leaves a touch to be desired, as this piece shows rim charring, scraping and carbonizing in the chamber, blistering to the finish, and the stem and shank not being perfectly flush, but being such an early piece, this is a pipe that can't be passed up the avid Doctor's collector.
