Misc. Estates: Viktor Yashtylov Sandblasted Opera
Product Number: 004-008-5707
The side view of this piece from Viktor Yashtylov telegraphs an impression of a bulbous pipe, but when viewed from the axis of the stem and shank, it's narrow. Ovalness defines this pipe, its bowl, shank, and stem all ovals. While the shank appears tall, with a top transition halfway up the bowl, it is narrow, like the bowl, and in a vertically stretched oval. The stem, too is ovalled at the junction tot he shank, and the saddle extension is oval as well, until flattening at the lip button area. An earthy dark stain colors the stummel save for a narrow band of smooth at the end of the shank. The grain radiates from the forward heel for angled growth rings rising up the bowl to the sandblasted, oval rim. A pocket pipe with a standard-sized tobacco chamber, it is as remarkable of design as it is practical.- Chuck Stanion
