Misc. Estates: Alexander Sokolik Partially Sandblasted Bent Dublin with Boxwood and Horn (Unsmoked)
Product Number: 004-008-5766
Prior to becoming a pipemaker Ukrainian carver Alexander Sokolik served in the Air Force for 14 years and was initially inspired to craft pipes after seeing a video featuring a Tom Eltang pipe in 2011. Sokolik's style is perhaps best known for his highly sculptural Cello and Violin designs, making this bent Dublin quite a unique, stand out piece within his portfolio. It's a dramatically flaring and organic take on the classic shape, the shank's curling line work gradually guiding the eye to the impressive bowl up front. Two crisp ridgelines emerge from the shank face, continuing along the underside before merging along the bowl's fore and protruding slightly outward, further contributing to the striking silhouette. Sokolike has then finished the stummel in a remarkably rugged sandblast, unveiling well-defined waves of ring grain that creeps all the way up to the broad, plateau crowned rim. A dark horn accent adorns the shank end and sits positioned by two boxwood accents that provide some colorful contrast. Unsmoked.- Jeffery Sitts
