Misc. Estates: Alexander Tupitsyn Sandblasted Bent Egg with Horn (2017)
Product Number: 004-008-5837
This very light bent Egg from Alexander Tupitsyn is a study in fluid movement. The transition from bowl to shank is inset, as in Danish tradition, providing some cheekiness to the bowl. The immediate upward curve of the far side of the bowl quickly brings the bowl orientation upright, offering comfortable possibilities for every permutation of hand holding. A rounded horn fitment at the end of the shank transitions the shank to stem, which has the slightest of curves to it, angling the bit above the plane of the rim, which is popular, especially in modern Danish schools of pipemaking, and that I find makes a pipe easier to hold in the teeth. The chamfered rim is smooth and thin, though it still displays lots of nice horizontal grain. Small enough to slip into a jacket pocket, this compact smoking instrument is practical and artistic.
