Misc. Estates: Yuwei Sandblasted Cherrywood with Ivorite
Product Number: 004-008-5838
Being so dramatically tapered of bowl, it's impressive how well this piece from Yuwei sits upright on its minuscule heel. The Taiwanese carver excels at striking shapes, often looking to Danish, Japanese, and American design cues. In this Cherrywood, the artisan has accentuated the disparity between bowl and shank — the shank tapering drastically into the transition to further separate it from the flaring, forward-urging bowl. Furthermore, said bowl is imbued with subtle asymmetry, and the right flank rises slightly higher and more forward than the left. It's all dressed in a low-profile, Danish-style sandblast and accented with ivorite for a classy, dress pipe-like aesthetic.-Truett Smith
