Misc. Estates: Alexander Nepokoychitskiy Smooth Reverse Calabash Freehand
Product Number: 004-008-6024
As an adolescent, Alexander Nepokoychitskiy enjoyed building model airplanes, a hobby which would later encourage him to pursue a degree from the Moscow Aviation Institute of Technology. It also instilled in him the necessary patience and hand-eye-coordination necessary to begin making his own pipes. While more or less self taught, Alexander derives inspiration from a host of styles — from his fellow Russian artisans as well as the Scandivanian greats. This reverse Calabash design, for example, calls to mind much of Sara Mossberg and Love Geiger's work, particularly in the handling of the cinched transition and flared shank. As you might expect given its flattened base, it's a sure sitter, and the contrast stain brings out a wealth of impressive grain patterns as well.- Andrew Wike
