Misc. Estates: Dirk Claessen Sandblasted Bent Apple
Product Number: 004-008-6080
A Belgian pipemaker living and working in Spain, Dirk Claessen draws a good deal of inspiration from the late German carver Rainer Barbi. He's fashioned a muscualr bent Apple in this presentation, its shank maintaining a great deal of the visual presence of the piece, bending gently and expanding to the smooth shank face. Finished in a light sandblast unveiling a profusion of rippling grain, its elongated disposition and somewhat squashed treatment of the Apple bowl render a vertically subdued composition.- Chuck Stanion
