Misc. Estates: Li Zhesong Sandblasted Bent Apple (2016)

Product Number: 004-008-6152

After purchasing and refurbishing estate pipes, Li Zhesong gradually became interested in crafting pipes of his own, initially starting as a part time pipe maker before transitioning to a full time artisan carver. Zhesong produces less than 100 pipes a year, bespeaking his dedication to quality and detail driven approach. Li has shown quite the affinity for realizing playful, creative takes on Danish and Japanese classics, and this bent Apple with its plump, cheeky bowl and subtle asymmetry is an excellent example of the Chinese artisan's style. A jutting teardrop line runs clear from rim through shank, using negative space to create a lifting gesture in its bowl, and a slight flick to its upturned shank and stem. All in all, it's a muscular yet dynamic interpretation, rendered in fairly pocket-friendly proportions.
