Misc. Estates: Lomma Partially Rusticated Cherrywood
Product Number: 004-008-6630
Lars Jonsson's Cherrywood shapes tend to display a playful stance, which is typically realized through the implied gesture and motion of the bowl. Here, the Swedish carver chose a more overtly organic style of shaping, though he couldn't resist lending the bowl a bit of forward-inclined gesture in the process. Said organicism is definitely aided by a tight crown of craggy plateau, complemented by loads of fine, feathery flame highlighted by a vivid, warm contrast stain. The slightly raised transition and upward-kicking shank-and-stem combination lend this resolute sitter a sense of litheness in profile. Hidden beneath the heel, Lars lent the underside a sunburst of striated rustication that's sure to keep things interesting in hand. A truly elegant number that's well-suited to desk pipe status while benefiting from Jonsson's skilled craftsmanship.- Jeffery Sitts
