Misc. Estates: Unknown Smooth Freehand (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-008-6750
There's no stamping on this pipe, leaving us unable to identify its creator, which is truly a shame because whoever made this piece is seriously skilled. It's a stunning Freehand, displaying the "speared" or "pierced" motif that has become increasingly popular within artisan pipe making but unlike other renditions that opt for a different medium to pierce through the bowl, this offering solely utilizes briar. Soft ridgelines descend from the scalloped rim, helping to inform the upward flicking motion of the "tail" that rises and curves back toward the bowl. I also appreciate the shaping of the stem base on this composition as the expansion disc resembles the hilt of a sword while the shank continues through the rest of the piece like a sharp blade. Truly impressive work that's still unsmoked.
