Misc. Estates: Sergey Ailarov Smooth Bent Brandy
Product Number: 004-008-6842
This bent Brandy rendition from Sergey Ailarov exhibits notable elements of Danish pipe design throughout its overall composition. For example, the teardrop shank, whose ridgeline extends all the way into the full, rounded waist of the bowl, brings to mind the styling of the late master Lars Ivarsson. There's also a certain muscularity in profile that doesn't sacrifice the graceful fluidity of the shape, which is the type of shaping execution often associated with Danish artisan pipes. Married with the superlative shaping is gorgeous flame grain surrounding the bowl, with of a sea of whirling birdseye dominating the shank's underside. It's a gorgeous piece from the Russian carver, offered in a quite a compact package for smoking and carrying comfort.
