Misc. Estates: Andrey Grigoriev Sandblasted Apple Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-008-6884
An engineer by trade, Andrey Grigoriev met famed Russian carver Viktor Yashtylov in 2006 and started learning about making pipes, becoming Yashtylov's apprentice in 2010, now making his own pipes, and he has clearly absorbed an immense understanding of shaping under that tutelage. The canted bowl here takes visual precedence, its plump base and gentle tapering curve to the rim maintaining attention while the round shank extends to the saddle mouthpiece. Grigoriev finished this piece in a low-profile sandblast, maintaining the shape's supple curves while coaxing out a wonderful array of undulating grain around the bowl's flanks that ascends upward to meet the smooth, slightly concave rim.
