Misc. Estates: Gregor Lobnik Smooth Brandy (***)

Product Number: 004-008-6916

Many of the Gregor Lobnik pieces I've encountered have been of the sleek, sweeping style, taking influence from his teacher, Peter Matzhold, and the minimalist smoothness found in Danish pipe design. This straight Brandy manages to reflect some of that Danish style as its lines are soft and supple, and its shank and stem reduced to trim proportions. The briar's in cross-grain orientation, leaving fascinating birdseye patterns positioned along the flanks while the stem is fashioned from brindled vulcanite, a material we don't often see utilized on Gregor's pipes. It's one of the Slovenian artisan's more understated pieces yet is a charming interpretation that demonstrates Lobnik's broad stylistic range.
