Misc. Estates: Sergey Ailarov Smooth Bent Dublin
Product Number: 004-008-7089
Russian carver Sergey Ailarov utilizes his fascination with the art of pipe smoking to create pieces that put equal emphasis on functionality and aesthetic beauty. That's certainly exemplified here with this incredibly dynamic and gestural bent Dublin. The shank is elongated and displays an oval cross section, with firm ridgelines along its sides merging along the bowl's base, forming a crisp, slightly pointed heel. Such a design makes the bowl's flare even more visually impressive, accentuating the bowl's height and the gorgeous, tight streaks of vertical grain the rise in concert with the flaring flanks. The broad, softly inflated rim helps soften the profile, with an encircling ridgeline demarcating it from the rest of the bowl and framing the beautiful birdseye that swirls across its surface. The base of the saddle stem lines up perfectly with the shank's ridgelines and displays a comfortably shaped button, signaling that this pipe should be an excellent smoking instrument.- Jeffery Sitts
