Rich with asymmetry, this lengthy, Tulip-like Freehand from HS Studio showcases a shank and stem combination that quavers to the button as it ebbs out of the wide transition. The bowl here is quite floral, with a sweeping heel leading to plump walls which then rise to an undulating rim. Said rim favors the right flank, and the bowl, when viewed aerially, can be seen pushing out toward the left, making for a pipe that is rich with subtle detail. The vibrant auburn-ruby stain of this piece works well with the black stem and reveals handsome flame grain through the bowl, with visible growth rings at the aft side.
