Misc. Estates: Peter Matzhold Smooth Bent Brandy Sitter with Olivewood (O) (B) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-008-7332
An artisan pipe maker from Austria, Peter Matzhold often crafts pipes that have a sense of elongated gesture to them, whether bent or straight. Now, this isn't to say that his pipes are particular long but, rather, that their shaping evokes a languid, stretched aesthetic — as is the case with this bent Brandy. Most characteristic of this "stretched" aesthetic is the transition which is gradual in its flaring curl from shank to bowl, offering soft lines and a perfect place to drape a thumb when holding this pipe. The shank, then, angles upward from this transition before the stem turns downward, and the bowl is pitched slightly forward, exhibiting a strong taper through its tall form. The heel is flatted, allowing this pipe to sit upright, and a natural stain highlights flame grain across the flanks. Furthermore, this piece is accented with boxwood comprising the stem base, its lighter hue offering handsome contrast against the stummel.
