Misc. Estates: Michal Novak Smooth Freehand Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-008-8445
Based out of the Czech Republic, Michal Novak is known for his wild, flourishing Freehand designs and the fluting ridges he often features on his pipes. This particular piece is a solid example of the carver's style and is quite a bold, dramatic Freehand. The towering, Dublin-like bowl seems to surge forward, its flaring, sloped rom tallest at the aft, while an undulating, furling and furrowed ridgeline wraps the aft and transition for quite the flourishing effect. The muscular shank and saddle stem are spiraled, a shaping cue often seen in the artisan's work. It's dressed in a warm auburn stain, highlighting the briar's handsome grain patterns, while a brass accent lends further intrigue.
