Misc. Estates: Bjorn Bengtsson Smooth Billiard with Bamboo (1283) (1983) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-008-8683
Swedish artisan Bjorn Bengtsson is a supremely talented carver that was trained by Poul Rasmussen and worked out of Anne Julie's workshop. He eventually established a workshop in his native country of Sweden and began producing handsome pipes like this fetching Billiard. The bowl is classically inclined, with soft curves and a plump heel at the fore of a slim bamboo shank fitted with an expertly rendered vulcanite saddle stem. This understated piece hearkens back to the pipes of generations past, made famous by marques like Stanwell and Dunhill, though rendered here in an especially detailed fashion. Dressed in a dark auburn stain, the bowl features excellent flame grain around the bowl, with dense birdseye at the rim and heel.
