HS Studio pipes are made in the Roadtown workshop, comprising the more expressive and individualized side of the Chinese marque's portfolio. This distinctive Freehand is a fine example of HS Studio's eccentric style, featuring a fluid and organic bowl that rests on a slim, flat heel, with walls that flare dramatically as they travel upward to meet a subtly domed rim. The stummel is characterized by crisp lines and carving work that create a floral motif around the bowl that appeals to the eyes as much as the fingers. Out back, a high-kicking shank meets a deftly carved half-saddle stem, with the saddle portion rendered from white acrylic that handsomely contrasts the black mouthpiece. Dressed in a rich auburn stain, the stummel boasts fine birdseye at the flanks, with tight cross grain at the fore and aft.
