Misc. Estates: Michail Kyriazanos Smooth Billiard with Silver Army Mount (2017) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-008-9967

Greek artisan Michail Kyriazanos began carving pipes in 2010 and immediately found success, primarily due to his signature style. Kyriazanos draws on Ancient Greek history for aesthetic inspiration, such as the Cycladic art figurines that he incorporated into a symbolic stamp. Kyriazanos' approach to pipe-making is defined by minimalism, as he prioritizes function over superfluous flourishes. His artistic tenets lend well to traditional shapes, which he often crafts, but manifest just as handsomely on his creative Freehands.

This Billiard by Michail Kyriazanos is an excellent illustration of his affinity for carving classic pipe shapes. The bulb-like bowl possesses a plump waistline, a tidy rim, and supple walls, while a well-cheeked transition defines the bowl's contours in profile. Out back, the briar shank swiftly gives way to a silver military mount, which keeps the composition proportional and adds a glimmering flourish to the piece. Additionally, the stummel is dressed in a smoky walnut stain, highlighting thick streaks of vertical grain that encircle the bowl and flow down the shank.
