Misc. Estates: Minoru Nagata Smooth Dublin with Bamboo Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-008-10018
Boasting over 30 years of pipe-making experience, Japanese artisan Minoru Nagata crafts striking Freehand shapes with sculptural flair. However, this Dublin by Minoru Nagata is classically Japanese, as it was inspired by the Kiseru, a traditional Japanese pipe fashioned from metal and bamboo. Similar to the Kiseru, the bowl here is quite petite, and it is set at a dramatic forward-cant, imbuing this feather-weight piece with a forward-urging momentum. Out back, a lithe stretch of blonde bamboo gently arcs upward, its five rugged knuckles adding some tactile intrigue. The bamboo shank terminates at an abbreviated cumberland stem, which provides just enough space for a comfortable clench. Additionally, the bowl is dressed in a warm auburn stain, highlighting stunning flame grain on the flared walls, while the plateau on the rim provides a dash of textural contrast.
