Misc. Estates: Peter Matzhold Smooth Brandy (1D) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 004-008-10057
Before becoming a pipe-maker, Peter Matzhold studied and worked as an architect in Graz, Austria. He first picked up pipe-making as a hobby, but after displaying his pipes in an art gallery to great reception, Matzhold decided to make his hobby a career. Matzhold strives to make his pieces standout, commonly fashioning inventive Freehands or traditional shapes that frame handsome grain. Matzhold never uses fills on his pipes, often dresses them in vivid auburn stains, and occasionally utilizes exotic hardwood accents, creating a signature style that is instantly identifiable.
This Brandy is representative of Peter Matzhold's traditional tastes. The voluptuous bowl is poised at the fore of a proportional, rounded shank, the two elements meeting at a cheeked transition that accentuates the curvature of the bowl's contours. Furthermore, the shank begins a subtle taper as it flows to the stem, which then dives to the trim bit, manifesting a balanced and sleek profile. Additionally, the stummel is dressed in one of Matzhold's signature auburn stains, highlighting a delightful pattern of birdseye and cross grain.
