Misc. Estates: Joao Reis Smooth Bent Dublin (6) (2003) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 004-008-10178

Joao Reis began carving pipes in 1998 in Lisbon, Portugal, and went on to study under the likes of Kai Nielsen, Jørgen Nielsen, Poul Ilsted, and Tom Eltang, eventually moving to Denmark to further his pipe making career. As such, the Portuguese artisan is an extremely talented carver with a skill well beyond his years as demonstrated in this bent Dublin from 2003. Though it's an early piece, this composition deftly showcases Joao's talents with its sweeping line work and sinuously bent shank-and-stem combination. The bowl flares in traditional Dublin fashion from its rounded heel and erupts in a broad spread of plateau along the rim. A gorgeous array of flame grain coincides with the bowl's flare while the chamber is generously deep.
