Misc. Estates: Unknown Smooth Paneled Rhodesian Tobacco Pipe

This Paneled Rhodesian from an unknown carver is a striking, stout take on the classic shape that magnifies the thickness of all its parts. The shank is hearty and rather short, pushing out of a wide transition to meet a thick-based but slim saddle stem: the relative slenderness of the bit pushing further emphasis on the bowl. This bowl stands on a round heel and grows plump, robust walls that expand to a high-set waist whose presence is marked not by a traditional ridge, but by the confluence of six panels that surround the bowl: marking the form's iconic taper to the rim. Dressed in a warm, rich, chestnut-stained smooth finish, the stummel showcases handsome grain throughout.
