Misc. Estates: Cat's Paw Smooth Horn Tobacco Pipe

Cat's Paw pipes are produced in Canada, carved by the husband and wife team of Bill and Terri Weist, who primarily craft pipes in the Danish tradition, inspired by artisan carvers like Bo Nordh, Kent Rasmussen, and Tom Eltang. This Horn is a lovely take on the classic shape, its outline reminiscent of the Oliphant by virtue of its paneled flanks. The outline of this pipe displays the Horn's iconic, consistent flare, presenting with an even, measured expansion of the silhouette from stem to rim. The paneling across the flanks highlights this flare and draws the eye naturally to the fore, accentuating the subtle curvature of the form while creating a complementary sense of muscularity. Dressed in a warm, rich stain, the stummel showcases some extremely well-developed grain, with flame flowing through the sides of the shank and curling to follow the shaping of the briar: creating twin oceans of birdseye at the fore and aft sides.
