Misc. Estates: Geiger Smooth Tomato with Mammoth (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe

Based in Sweden, Geiger pipes are a collaborative effort between two pipe makers: the husband and wife duo of Love Geiger and Sara Mossberg. Love began making pipes in 1997, and Sara followed shortly afterward, becoming his partner and opening their workshop in the early 2000s. The pair create pipes with a strong degree of Danish influence, as well as inspiration from the late Swedish pipe making legend Bo Nordh. This Tomato is a striking piece from the workshop, its shape possessed of a dramatized kind of squatness that goes beyond that of more archetypal takes on the modern classic shape. This focus on squatness lends the pipe an impressively aerodynamic profile, accentuating its organic curves and robust construction. The bowl here is the unquestionable visual center of the composition, standing atop a vast, sweeping heel whose plump curves keep it feeling comfortable in hand. Growing out of this heel, the walls flare immediately to a mid-set waist that expands to more than two inches around, insulating a reserved chamber and making for a full-bodied feel when smoking. From the waist, the walls arc toward the rim and the transition gives way to the shank, these features' tandem start creating a balanced look in silhouette. Said shank is a flaring, cylindrical stretch of briar that lifts as it broadens toward a trim junction ring of mammoth: an accent displaying a unique combination of pale tones that darken into a bluish-grey near the end. Here, a sleek saddle stem of black acrylic pairs to the shank, with this stem's base shaped in a slanting, angular fashion that wrests a bit of this pipe's visual weight away from the bowl. Dressed in a warm, rich stain and a glossy finish, the stummel showcases a refined grain pattern, with flame wrapping through the flanks of the shank and around the bowl, while the expansive underside is awash with birdseye.
