Languidly curved through its silhouette, this Zulu from an unknown maker features a tall, forward-canted bowl that rises at the fore of a demurely curved shank-and-stem arrangement. The shank-and-stem arrangement's gradual taper from the transition to the bit slenderizes the aft side of the composition and draws visual focus to the bowl, with some negative space at the transition lending this piece some balance. A crisp sandblast and earthy stain dress the stummel here and reveal a pattern of rippling growth rings flowing through the flanks.
