Though originally born in Hungary, Julius Vesz has called Canada home for many years, carving pipes out of his workshop in Toronto. His pipes tend to run the gamut from fairly straightforward, Anglo-French standards to more whimsical compositions. This particular Apple is an amalgamation of both ends of his creative spectrum, presenting the classic form in a distinctive way. Partially rusticated and wrapped in a pair of beadlines, the pert, well-rounded bowl stands at the fore of a trim shank extended by three knuckles of bamboo. The accent is quite bulbous, matching the dimensions of the bowl and lending a bulkiness to the shape's profile. Additionally, the bamboo livens the shape's otherwise muted color palette, and offers a touch of vibrancy to the overall form.
