American Estates: William Craig Smooth Cavalier (S)

Product Number: 004-009-6004

William Craig was the proprietor of the Fireside Pipe Shop in Hurffville, NJ, and, along with private-label pipes produced by major factories, he also offered his own line of handmade briars. This Cavalier appears to be one of the latter, and sports both an interesting interpretation of the shape (reminiscent of the Bavarian Ulmer pipes in the forms of its bowl and shank) as well as some more than decent, well-oriented grain. One caveat though: the drilling of the airway is unusually narrow, at about 1/8 of an inch in diameter.
