American Estates: Randy Wiley Patina Smooth Freehand (00) (Early 1980s)
Product Number: 004-009-6265
Randy Wiley began making pipes in the mid-1970s after studying under a Tampa sculptor named Ray Hold. While Ray didn't carve pipes, he did explain the craftsmanship of wood working to a young Randy Wiley. Since he was trained as a sculptor, we are all very fortunate that he took up briar as his medium. This 00 Patina has the classic double-plateau reminiscent of so many pipes of the era. Such a great finish, which is darkening naturally over years of smoking, will only increase in color over time.
